Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 23, 2026
This policy explains what the Kicks & Contractions app (in the stores: “My Contractions & Kicks Timer”) collects, why, who helps us process it, how long we keep it, and the rights you have. We wrote it from what the app actually does.
1. Who we are
Kicks & Contractions is made by Dalo Labs ApS, Ben Websters Vej 70, 4. th, 2450 København SV, Denmark, CVR DK46555058 (“we”, “us”). We are the data controller for the personal data described here. You can reach us at support@dalo.tech.
What the app is, and isn't. It helps you time contractions, count your baby's movements, pack your hospital bag, plan your birth and read sourced guides. It is not a medical device, it doesn't diagnose, and it never replaces your midwife, doctor or maternity unit.
2. Information we collect
Account data
Your name (if you give one), email address, the sign-in method you chose (email, Apple or Google) and its account identifier, your language, your date and time format, the units you chose (weight, length and drinks), your time zone, and the country derived from your time zone.
Pregnancy and health data
This is special-category data under the GDPR (Article 9). We process it only with your explicit consent, which the app asks for separately when you create your account.
- your due date, and your baby's birth date if you record it;
- the contractions you time (start and end times, intensity) and events you log, such as your water breaking, with any notes you write;
- your kick-counting sessions: the start time, each movement's time, your goal, how the session ended, and, if you add them, what each movement felt like and any you marked as hiccups;
- how you're feeling, if you log it: a mood, feelings, symptoms and a note;
- your next appointment, if you add it (when, who it's with, where) and the questions you write for it. The app keeps only the next appointment, not a history;
- your contraction rule (for example 5-1-1), your kick goal and reminder settings, how many babies you're expecting, and whether you count each baby's movements separately;
- your answers when you set up the app: whether this is your first baby, who will be with you at the birth, and what's on your mind most. They shape the plan the app shows you and the name of your bag's partner list;
- your hospital-bag checklist, including items you add yourself;
- your birth plan: your answer to each preference, and any you add in your own words;
- the drinks you log (time, amount, kind) and your daily drinks goal;
- if you tell the app your pregnancy has ended, the day you recorded it. We use it only to stop the pregnancy reminders and screens and to keep you out of every marketing message. We never ask why.
Purchase data
Whether you have a subscription or a trial, which plan, and its renewal status, from the App Store or Google Play through RevenueCat. We never see your card details.
Usage and device data
App events (for example “a kick session ended”, with counts but never your notes or your own list items), screens viewed, app version, device model and operating system, crash reports, performance traces, and a push-notification token.
Session recordings
To find where the app is hard to use, PostHog records how you move through it: which screen, where you tap and scroll. Every piece of text and every image is blacked out on your phone before the recording leaves it, and so are the charts of your contractions and kicks. A recording shows the layout of a screen, never what's on it.
Consent records
When you accepted the terms, gave health-data consent, turned AI on, and opted in to marketing (if you did).
What stays on your phone
- Reminders (kick counting, hospital bag, your appointment) are scheduled on your phone. The appointment reminder shows only the time on your lock screen.
- The summary for your provider is a PDF made on your phone from what you've recorded. It goes only where you send it from your share sheet. We don't upload or keep it, and the name you can add to it isn't saved.
We do not use your advertising ID, we do not sell your data, and the app shows no ads.
3. AI and the Ask chat
The Ask tab is an optional AI chat. Nothing is sent to the AI until you agree on the screen that opens the first time you visit it, and you can turn it off at any time in Settings → AI. Everything else in the app works without it.
What we send to our Gemini Enterprise instance, run by Google in the EU:
- what you write in the chat;
- how many weeks pregnant you are (or that your baby has arrived), whether you're expecting more than one baby, the contraction rule your provider gave you, your kick-counting goal, and the units you chose;
- only when you ask the AI about them, a short summary of your timed contractions, kick counts, drinks and hospital bag.
What we never send: your name, your email, your due date or your baby's birth date (the AI only sees how far along you are), the words of your notes, bag items you added yourself, your mood log, your appointment and its questions, your birth plan, or your answers from setting up the app.
Google processes the chat on our behalf only and doesn't use it to train its models. We don't keep your chat: a new conversation starts when the app restarts. The chat's text never goes to our analytics.
Before your message reaches the AI, the app checks it on your phone for warning signs, and if it finds one it shows you a card telling you to call your provider. That check never leaves your phone.
4. How we use your information, and our legal bases
| Purpose | Data | Legal basis |
|---|---|---|
| Running your account and the app's features | Account, pregnancy and health data | Contract (Art. 6(1)(b)); explicit consent for health data (Art. 9(2)(a)) |
| Reminders | Reminder settings, due date, appointment time | Contract; scheduled on your phone |
| Subscriptions | Purchase data, account identifier | Contract (Art. 6(1)(b)) |
| Fixing crashes and slow screens | Crash reports, performance traces, device data | Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)): a working app |
| Understanding how the app is used | Usage events, masked session recordings, pregnancy stage (below) | Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)); the pregnancy-stage part under your explicit health-data consent (Art. 9(2)(a)) |
| Telling you about our apps for after the birth | Pregnancy stage | Explicit health-data consent (Art. 9(2)(a)) |
| Marketing email | Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)), only if you opted in | |
| The Ask chat | As listed in section 3 | Explicit consent, asked separately in the app (Art. 6(1)(a), 9(2)(a)) |
Pregnancy stage in analytics and subscriptions. We send your due date, the number of days to it, your trimester and whether you have recorded your baby's birth to PostHog (analytics) and RevenueCat (subscriptions). This lets us understand how people at different stages use the app, and tell you about our apps for after the birth (My Milk Stash and My Baby Sleep) at the right time. We never send your notes, your own list items, or your contraction and kick records. If you tell the app your pregnancy has ended, these dates are cleared and you are left out of every marketing message.
5. Who processes your data for us
We don't sell or rent your data. These companies process it on our behalf, under data processing agreements:
| Processor | What for | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Google (Firebase: Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Functions, Cloud Messaging, Crashlytics, Performance Monitoring, App Check, In-App Messaging) | Your account, storage, server functions, notifications, crash and performance data | Firestore: EU (eur3); Cloud Functions: Frankfurt (europe-west3); some Firebase services may process data in the US |
| Google (Gemini Enterprise) | The Ask chat, only if you turn AI on | EU |
| PostHog | Usage analytics and masked session recordings | EU |
| RevenueCat | Subscription status | US |
| Apple, Google | Sign in with Apple or Google; store purchases | Under their own terms |
We may also disclose data where the law requires it, or to a successor if Dalo Labs ApS is merged or sold, in which case this policy continues to apply.
6. Data security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Your records sit under your own account, and our database rules let only your signed-in account read or change them. App Check lets only our genuine app reach our servers. No method is perfectly secure, but we limit who at Dalo Labs can access data to what's needed to run and support the app.
7. How long we keep it
- Your account and records: as long as you have an account.
- When you delete your account (Settings → Delete account, or on the start screen), your account is deleted at once and a server function then deletes everything stored under it: contractions, kicks, mood, appointment, bag, birth plan, drinks and notes. Any remaining copies are gone within 30 days.
- Crash reports are kept by Crashlytics for 90 days.
- Usage analytics and session recordings are kept only as long as we need them to improve the app, then deleted. Anonymised, aggregated statistics may be kept longer.
- Records the law requires us to keep, such as accounting records, for up to 5 years.
8. Children
The app is meant for adults aged 18 and over who are pregnant, and the people supporting them. We don't knowingly collect data from children under 16. If you believe a child has given us data, write to us and we'll delete it.
9. International transfers
Your records are stored in the EU, and the Ask chat and our analytics run in the EU. Where a processor handles data outside the EU/EEA (some Firebase services, RevenueCat), the transfer relies on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses under Chapter V of the GDPR, or on the EU–US Data Privacy Framework where the recipient is certified.
10. Your rights
Under the GDPR you can:
- access your data and get a copy of it;
- correct it;
- delete it (you can delete your account yourself in the app);
- restrict its processing, or object to processing based on legitimate interest;
- receive it in a portable format;
- withdraw your consent at any time. Turning AI off or opting out of marketing is in Settings. Withdrawing health-data consent means deleting your account, because the app can't work without that data.
Write to support@dalo.tech; we answer within one month. You can also complain to the Danish Data Protection Agency (Datatilsynet, www.datatilsynet.dk) or to the authority where you live.
11. Cookies and tracking
The app doesn't track you across other companies' apps or websites and doesn't use your advertising ID. This website sets no cookies and runs no analytics.
12. Changes to this policy
When we change this policy we update the date at the top, and if a change matters we tell you in the app.
